Our responsibility to environment and sustainability

Over three generations the Danzer family and its employees have considered responsible forest management as an essential part of our business. This includes the respect for the social conditions of our workers and the communities our companies operate in.

In our view, social responsibility includes environmental responsibility for today and future generations.

Environmentally responsible management in Africa

Concerning our African forestry companies IFO, Republic of Congo, and SIFORCO, Democratic Republic of Congo, our social, and consequently environmental, responsibility includes the forest we are managing and the people living in and around it.

Environmentally responsible management means contributing to the sustainable development of the region and the countries we are operating in.

In our trading activities we are dealing with a number of forestry companies in West and Central Africa and importers from this region.

We expect the similar level of social and environmental commitment from these business partners.

Contribution to combating poverty

Given our expertise and experience we will, where needed, offer our partners assistance to progressively implement the required formalities in this respect - as we know that in the difficult business environment in Africa only a gradual approach will be successful. At the same time, we share the opinion of important development agencies like the World Bank: fostering the private sector (especially the formation of local entrepreneurs) is key to a successful fight against poverty on the African continent.
