Lacey Act

The United States have prohibited the import, trading and sale of illegal wood and timber products. You can be certain that Danzer Group’s wood and timber products meet all legal requirements.

The amended Lacey Act makes it unlawful to import illegal timber and to trade in this commodity within the United States. Timber is deemed to be illegal if it is not harvested in accordance with the legal requirements of the country where it was felled. Beginning in April 2009, importers and dealers will be obliged to complete a declaration stating the species, country of origin, quantity and dimensions and value of the goods. Failure to furnish the mandatory declaration may result in confiscation of the goods, fines and possible imprisonment.

If you obtain wood and timber products from Danzer Group, you will receive all the necessary information on the goods, including proofs of origin. You can be certain that our deliveries comply with the Lacey Act and can use our timber without any restrictions. Certificates from third-party auditing firms confirm that our wood products come from legal sources.

Danzer Group is supporting the fight against the illegal logging and trading of wood and timber products. Illegal logging not only destroys important ecosystems but also has horrendous economic consequences. Timber traded illegally keeps world market prices for tropical timber so low that the sale of timber from sustainable forest management is often unable to cover costs.
