How to use FSCChoose from an extensive range of logs, lumber and veneer certified as FSC-Pure or verified as FSC Controlled Wood by making your purchases through Danzer Group. What is FSC? How do you benefit from these certificates? How do the FSC labels differ and what must you consider when using an FSC label? Read the answers
What is FSC? Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is an independent, non-governmental and not-for-profit organization established to promote the responsible management of the world’s forests.
What are the benefits of FSC certification? FSC-certified wood comes from responsibly managed forests. Demand for certified wood products is rising. FSC certificates are very often required in invitations to tender for government buildings or in the public procurement of wood and timber products. It is also becoming increasingly common for consumers to ask for such proof. When purchasing veneer or lumber with the FSC certificate you benefit from greater marketing opportunities for your own products.
Which FSC labels are available? Two labels are available from FSC. Wood with the FSC label comes from forests that are managed in compliance with the FSC standards and are certified by an FSC-accredited audit body. Danzer Group’s African subsidiary IFO in the Republic of Congo has achieved this full FSC-certification for its forestry concession. In order to produce timber products which can be sold as FSC pure all timber components of this product have to be FSC certified.
Wood products with the FSC Mixed label are a mixture of components bearing the FSC certificate and those being FSC Controlled Wood verified. In order to qualify as “Controlled Wood” verified the forest of origin must comply with certain social and ecological criteria. Almost all of Danzer Group’s veneers and our innovative wooden surface Vinterio are FSC Controlled Wood verified
To qualify for the FSC Mixed label, a product must consist of at least 70 percent FSC Pure certified wood. The remaining wood must comply with the Controlled Wood standard. Your advantage: You can market products with the acknowledged FSC-Label much more easily. When applying a Controlled Wood verified veneer and using an FSC Pure certified substrate, you can process an FSC Mixed product.
Given a continuous FSC Chain-of-Custody certification (CoC), the product can be marketed with the acknowledged FSC Label. CoC certification means every wood product sold can be verifiably traced back to the original log. This ensures that timber products with the FSC logo actually come from an FSC-certified forest and are not mixed with other non-certified timber.
What must you pay attention to? Labeling and marketing your product with the FSC Pure or FSC Mixed logo requires you to hold FSC Chain of Custody certification, which will allow you to buy, manufacture, and sell FSC-certified timber products. Proof is also required from your supplier. Products you order from Danzer Group include the required certification documentation upon request. All of these records prove that our shipments adhere to the FSC rules. You have unrestricted use of the FSC-Pure and FSC-Mixed-certificate for your products’ marketing.
